Getting ready for the gun!

1.BCAnoe will not be responsible for any injury or loss of life, loss of or damage to personal equipment and property, during participation in or around the BECA Race. BCAnoe will not be responsible for any delays, expenses or inconveniences which may be caused directly or indirectly by any events including acts of God, government, machinery, or equipment.
2. Teams may consist of a maximum of 3 members. No substitution of original team members will be allowed at any time during the entire course of the race.
3. Open Class: Only open canoes with a maximum length of twenty (20) feet will be utilized. The length of a canoe shall be measured in a straight line between the extreme end of the bow and the extreme end of the stern.
4. Canoes may be constructed of any material or by any methods. For safety considerations, a swamped canoe must provide least 25 pounds of buoyancy.
The following restrictions apply:
a. Steering rudders of any type are NOT allowed.
b. Bow and Stern Decks shall not be more than 30 inches as measured from the most extreme tip of each end.
c. Temporary Spray Skirts constructed of soft plastic sheeting, canvas, or vinyl, will be allowed.
d. Electric bailers are not permitted. Manually operated mechanical bailers and siphon-type bailers are permitted.
5. Propulsion will be by single blade paddles only.
6. Protests can be made by teams members only. The BECA Race Committee will entertain WRITTEN protests only. All protests must be accompanied by a non-refundable BZ$100 fee and be submitted before the prizes have been awarded. Decisions regarding all protests are within the sole parameter of the BECA Race Committee and their decisions will be considered FINAL.
7. Each team is completely responsible for their own safety, food, drinks, equipment, and any other necessities.
8. Intentional littering will result in disqualification of team member/s.
9. Once the race has officially started, modifications or changes of any kind to the original design, shape or construction of a team's canoe is NOT allowed. Necessary repairs must be inspected, before and after they have been made, by a BECA Race Official.
10. All teams must remain in the water within the natural banks of the river. Canoes may be carried or dragged through shallow waters or around total river flow obstructions or any obstruction that exceeds personal safety considerations. When portaging around an obstruction, a team is required to reenter the river at the nearest safe entry point immediately after the obstruction.
11. All teams are to remain together while engaged in the actual race. In the event that a team member or members are forced to leave the canoe and discontinue the race for medical or other reasons, he or she does so at their own risk and can disembark from the canoe only where their sponsor or where a committee member is waiting. The remaining team members, if they so desire, may continue on with the race. When a team member or members leave a team under the above circumstances, he or she WILL NOT be permitted to rejoin their team for the duration of the race.
12. Each canoe must contain a readily available and serviceable life vest for each team member.
13. Teams WILL NOT be allowed to receive any physical assistance of any kind or nature from ANYONE during the course of the race, except in emergency life-threatening situations or authorized assistance received from BECA Race Officials .
14. Teams WILL be allowed to receive water and other nutritional liquids and food from their coaches and ground crews during the course of the race.
15. When a team is overtaking another team, it is the duty of the overtaking team to keep clear of the team being overtaken. The team being overtaken is NOT allowed to alter its course to make difficulty for the overtaking team. Good Sportsmanship is expected at all times. Intentional interference and un-sportsman-like conduct warrants immediate disqualification.
16. Alcohol and tobacco are not allowed during the race and illegal drugs are not allowed at any time.
17. All team members, coaches, ground crewmembers, sponsors, representatives, and fans must exercise the highest degree of sportsmanlike conduct and professionalism at all times throughout the race. Teams will be penalized or disqualified if any of the above groups abuse this rule. All BECA Race Officials and BECA Race Medical Personnel must be shown respect and their directions followed at all times.
18. The BECA Race Committee reserves the right to change or amend these Rules and Regulations to meet any unforeseen safety or other conditions or considerations that may threaten the safe and uninterrupted completion of the race.
